The 10th Annual English-Speaking Union (ESU)

The 10th Annual English-Speaking Union (ESU) competition, sponsored by HSBC, was held on the 17th of April at the Lebanese American University where fourteen pre-selected students from seven national universities across Lebanon got together for the competition.

Each of the students presented a self-titled, five-minute speech based on the topic of “Speculation on Our Future” and two winners were selected by a six-member jury to represent Lebanon in the International Speech competition taking place in London between the 17th and 21st of May.

Two students were rightfully selected to represent LIU in this competition Ani Ghazarian, first year pre-pharmacy, gave a expressively titled speech "Gene Modification: A Modification of Social, Cultural and Moral Codes" while Hovannes Demerjian, second year Pre-pharmacy, presented a speech entitled "Violence, a Futuristic Necessity". Ani was one of the two winners, and will now step forward internationally to the final phase of the competition.
