Freshman Program

The freshman program is a requirement for students who have completed a 12 year program and obtained a high school degree that is considered a non-Lebanese baccalaureate. This high school diploma should be awarded by the government or recognized by a private school. To complete the freshman program each student must complete at least 30 credits in Freshman Arts, Freshman Sciences, or Freshman Engineering. The difference between each freshman program depends on which major the student would like to pursue after completion of freshman program.

The curriculum of the freshman program is based on the requirements of the Ministry of Education. Students who should complete the freshman program should also complete the SAT I and SAT II to receive accreditation by the government. When evaluating the student's SAT scores, the Admissions Office will combine the SAT I and SAT II quality points. The SAT quality points for Freshman Arts are 2600 and for Freshman Sciences and Freshman Engineering are 2750, but may be subject to change according to the Ministry of Education. If the student has completed the Lebanese baccalaureate or its equivalence he or she cannot enrol in the freshman program.

The documents required for admission are as follows.

  1. Certified copy of the Freshman permit (issued from the Ministry of Higher Education in Lebanon).
  2. SAT I and SAT II with a total score of 2600 (Freshman Arts) or 2750 (Freshman Science).
  3. Certified copy of grades of the last 3 years of school.
  4. Four (4) recent passport sized colored photographs.
  5. Two copies of the Identification card. (1st page of passport for non-Lebanese) إخراج قيد إفرادي
  6. Two recent copies of the family civil status record: إخراج قيد عائلي
  7. TOEFL (International IBT) score, if available, or must sit for the LIU English Placement Test.
  8. $30 non-refundable application fee.
  9. Transfer applicants must submit a certified university official transcript and a course description from the college or university attended (instead of the school grades).
  10. All applicants must submit their social security papers (DAMAN), if available, or must fill the appropriate papers at the social security office. (Non-Lebanese Students are exempted from the Social Security).
  11. If you are in need of financial assistance to attend the university, pick up an "Application Form for Financial Aid" from the Public Relations Office.

The placement exam of the freshman program is an English examination. After the completion of all the above requirements, the freshman student can proceed to enrol in the major of his/her choosing.
