School of Business_ Akkar: ESP 4th Workshop: Presentation Skills
The fourth ESP workshop, Presentation skills, was held on Friday, December 14th 2018, at Akkar campus between 9:00 and 15:00.
The workshop was given by Ms Yomna and Ms. Aya The workshop started with the trainers asking the students their names, the meaning of their names and whether they liked or disliked their names. After this ice breaker the trainers asked the students to set the rules of the day. The students chose “respect” which includes respecting others’ opinion, listening and not interrupting others, respecting time…
Students were than paired for an activity and given a task; they were not allowed to talk to their partner. The activity’s aim was to demonstrate the importance of communication and how it affects productivity. After that the trainers introduced a quote by “Zig" Ziglar” (an American author and motivational speaker) and encouraged the students to discuss that quote. A role play activity followed where students were asked to prepare a marketing presentation to try and sell an object found in the room. Later on, trainers explained, through a role playing activity, the effect the reaction of the listener can have on the presenter and how presenters should find ways to keep listeners interested so they would not lose focus.
The trainers explained that a presentation was 50% body language, 38% tone of voice and the remaining 7% is for the subject of the presentation.
Finally, students were asked to evaluate the experience and coaches read out loud the anonymous evaluations.
