Five Months in Palermo: An MBA Student’s Exchange Experience
My name is Jana Mahfouz and I am currently studying for my MBA. After finishing my first year of studies, I was very lucky to be granted the MARE Scholarship within the Erasmus+ Mobility Program, which enabled me to spend five months in Italy at the University of Palermo (UNIPA). During my semester at UNIPA I enrolled in courses on Human Rights: Theory and Policies, Demography of Migrations, Development and Inequality, and International Economics. These classes allowed me to view important world issues from different angles, and to participate in a new style of learning and academic discussion. But my time in Palermo was much more than this. Living abroad has taught me many things about myself. I have learned to be more independent, to adapt to new situations and to get out of my comfort zone. I also had the opportunity to meet people from different countries and cultures; many of the friends I made along the way became like family to me . Looking back, my time at the University of Palermo was one of the most meaningful experiences of my academic journey. I returned not only with new knowledge, but also with heartfelt memories, lasting friendships, and valuable life lessons. It reminded me that education extends far beyond the classroom; it is also about discovering new cultures, connecting with people, and becoming a more open-minded and confident person. I will always be grateful to my university for giving me this opportunity. My time in Palermo helped me grow both academically and personally, and it is an experience I will carry in my heart forever. Jana Mahfouz
