Internships

INTERNSHIPS & CAREER SERVICES

Internships are graduation requirements at LIU for some programs such as Pharmacy, BMED, and Nutrition. However, an internship is a period of work experience offered by an organization, lasting for a fixed period of time, usually one semester. Internships are typically undertaken by students and graduates looking to gain relevant skills.

Employers use periods of work experience to assess a student's or graduate's capability and often recruit employees from their interns rather than advertise their vacancies externally. To continuously assist the LIU community, LIU disseminates information about available internships and part-time jobs for currently enrolled students, as well as full-time and part-time jobs for fresh graduates and experienced alumni.

The Benefits of Internships

The benefits of an internship are countless. They assist in establishing a solid résumé along with the associated education, provide networking opportunities, help students gain valuable skills, increase the chances of being hired, support sound and positive career decisions, strengthen professional networks, and build much-needed confidence.

Steps to Find an Internship

Perfect your résumé and cover letter. Make use of your university's career services, and submit applications to organizations offering internship opportunities.

Documents Needed

The required documents depend on the company. Common examples include a letter of enrollment, academic transcripts, résumé, cover letter, and any other documents requested by the employer.
