LIU full-time and part-time faculty members are eligible for research funds according to the Funding Policy Rules and Regulations.

LIU faculty members support jointly supervised doctoral research projects through partnerships with universities and research institutions worldwide.
During the period from 2015 to 2021, twelve PhD students were co-supervised by LIU faculty members through partnerships with different universities around the world.
In France, collaborations included Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique et d’Aérotechnique, Ecole des Ponts ParisTech, Université de Technologie de Compiègne, Université d’Angers, CentraleSupélec in Rennes, University of Bordeaux, University of Nice, University of Aix-Marseille, University of Nantes, and other partner institutions.
Other PhD collaborations involved Saint Petersburg Mining University and Moscow State University of Civil Engineering in Russia, Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Spain, University of Rome Tor Vergata in Italy, University of Wollongong in Australia, and Amirkabir University of Technology in Iran.
The School of Engineering currently has sixteen PhD students co-supervised by LIU faculty members through partnerships with universities and research institutions around the world.
French partners include Université de Technologie de Compiègne, Ecole Centrale de Nantes, Ecole des Ponts ParisTech, Université d’Angers, AllianSTIC Lab, EFREI University in Paris, University of Nantes, Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse, Grenoble Alpes University, GIPSA-Lab, and UBS Lab-STICC in Lorient.
Other collaborations include the University of the Basque Country in Spain, University of Rome Tor Vergata in Italy, and K. N. Toosi University of Technology in Iran.
