Urban Governance in the MENA Region


LIU-SoED participated in the webinar on Urban Governance in the MENA Region Knowledge Transfer between Global North and South hosted by the Technical University of Berlin. The aim of the webinar was to demonstrate out the importance of bringing alumni together and to align alumni abilities and skills through methodological training in addition to the relation between the coronavirus and international mobility.

The webinar shed light on how to merge the public and private cooperation in the field of education, the importance of alumni programs for refreshing of knowledge, the government’s civil engagement (transparency, sustainability), and “what is a good governance”.



In his participation, the Dean of the SoED presented the topic on Making the Governance Systems stabilize and fit for purpose in the Middle East and North Africa: Enhancing Inclusiveness and Accountability. Dr. Kawtharani approached the topic of this webinar from the perspective of education and governance (as well as leadership and management in education to be involved in urban). Dr. Kawtharani also stated that if we want to have a very strategic urban governance, we start from schools and universities to implement SDGs into the curriculum. Sustainable recommendations that were mentioned are: rethinking the role of governments, sustainability, governance, planning and the risk government frameworks.
