Over the past few years, interest in educational utilization of robotics in schools has increased in Lebanon. Working with robots enhances creative problem solving techniques and encourages the development of basic communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to collaborate and convey complex ideas to a fellow students or colleagues. The School of Arts and Sciences, Computer Science Department – Tyre campus, organized the Second Annual Robotics exhibition for schools on April 10, 2019. The scope of the exhibition is to showcase the creations by school students of Robotics. Ten Schools participated in the presence of their principals, students and their supervisors. Around 65 persons from outside the university were present the day of the event including municipality members, general directors and sponsors. During the event a talk was given by Mr. Fadi Khoury, founder and director of Levantnet sarl, in which he highlighted the importance of introducing robotics in schools programs. When students are given the opportunity to create something interactive that they think is cool, their engagement levels increase and they are prepared for the future technologies. Mr. Khoury presented on stage the world’s first social humanoid robot “pepper” able to recognize faces and basic human emotions. He mentioned that growing industries in this field are going to need people who can come up with new and innovative ideas, and be equipped with the knowledge to design and create the technology needed. The event ended with tombola for school students and trophies for schools and sponsors.
